It's good sam's responsibility to take it to the nearest qualified repair facility. Since the customer "service" person probably understands zero about cars and is probably not given the authority necessary to believe the OP, we have an "issue"....
The OP is technically right in this case. And would likely save Good Sam some money (having to re-tow)..
