Looking for Interstate 26 towing info

We are going to be traveling from The east coast of Florida to Putney, Ky (harlan county campground) in a few weeks. We have a 2005 Nissan Titan 4x4 crew cab 5.8 liter with towing capability of 10,000#, towing a 2014 24'Enclosed trailer total towing weight of about 5500#, the trailer has electric brakes and we are having a Drawtite sway control bar installed. Looking for honest information as to which route is best to take I95-I26 or I75 - I81??? I understand I26 has alot of steep climbs and down grades??Is this going to be a problem???

Any info would be appreciated....

Shouldn't this be moved to Roads and Routes?

I am brand new to this forum stuff... :( I will repost over there hopefully I can figure out how.. :). Thanks shells
  • Thanks Terryallan, we are going all the way 26 to 421, just north of Kingsport. Have never traveled these roads.. then taking 421 to 119 into Harlan, KY....
  • honestly. 26 isn't all that bad. Slauda Grade will get you to I-40, and the top of the hill. Not a real huge challenge.
  • Yes we will be heading north on 95 through Jacksonville, stopping for the night in Savannah then heading on up.. thank you for this information...... :)
  • I-26 does have the most grades of the routes you list. I-26 has two hard pulls coming up out of the Green River gorge. One does have a slow traffic lane that you can use.
Thousands of RV'ers of all sorts use this route.

If leaving from I-95,Jacksonville, FL, I think I would use the I-26 route.
If leaving from I-75, Lake City, I would take the I-75 route.

There are less hard pulls on the I-75 route, but more traffic. Atlanta, Chattanooga and Knoxville.
