Medical Evacuation policy

I'm wondering if the medical evacuation policy is as questionably valuable as the vehicle insurance is suggested to be on the other thread. I suppose a thorough reading of the policy before purchase (if it's even possible to do so) is essential.

Thank you for the link and, yes, that will provide part of the information I will need, but I also want to hear from those who have made a claim on the policy to get their opinion of the service they received, and to see if the benefit they received actually matched the perceived benefit when purchasing the policy. I also hope to find out if they were allowed to read a copy of the policy before they signed the agreement.

  • The Good Sam Travel Assist + program will not only return your vehicles to your home base but it is good anywhere in the world, not just the U.S. The cost is quite reasonable for what you get. I have had the service for quite a few years and, fortunately, have never had to use it. It is really peace of mind though, especially with my medical history.

  • We use SkyMed they will get us and the truck and fiver back to our home base from anywhere in North America if I am unable to drive for any reason.
  • I was 800 miles from home last year. I'd just set up camp, and had a serious heart arrhythmia. I'd lost consciousness and was evacuated by ambulance to the hospital. My DW is afraid to drive the TV and FW, even though I've encouraged her many times to try.

In this case, we were very fortunate that our son was near, and could move the RV while I was recuperating. If we'd been across the country or in Alaska, it might have been quite an ordeal. I got back on my feet, and decided to purchase the policy from GS in case this happens again.

I think you need to weigh your own health situation and determine if there could be somebody there to help you out if things got out of hand.
