Is this a real complaint?

So what you are saying is that you have been a Good Sam member for 8 years and renewed your membership at Camping World for 2 years instead of 1. The Camping World associate told you that if you opted for a 2 year renewal(instead of that pesky 1 year) that you would get $25 back which would be like only paying for one year -- less actually.

Instead of getting a check back they sent you a gift certificate. Why would they send a check if the promotion is for a gift certificate? Kind of defeats the purpose of the so called promotion doesn't it? They might as well at that point just discount the rate for the 1 year to $13.50 and the 2 year to $25. That is essentially what they would be doing if it wasn't a *cough* promotion.

Sounds like a little miscommunication of the program but honestly after spending about 5 seconds on the website I understood it clearly. https://www.goodsamclub.com/join/

Surely you would have had to sign some paperwork outlining the details of your membership and the promotion?

How do you get upset over something like this to take the time to cancel your membership ( of 8 years) and seriously write a letter of complaint? Talk about 1st world problems for sure! What gets me is that you were most likely going to renew anyways after year 9? No? Maybe not but then why renew for 1 year?

I suppose it make about as much sense as me writing about you writing. Anyways - happing camping.

Don't condemn an entire company because of one idiot employee who made promises he/she couldn't keep.

Nevertheless the entire scenario is a bit trivial to call it a bold face lie.
Sounds like the OP is cutting off his nose to spite his face.
In the end the OP is going to suffer more than CW over a $25.00 error.
If the OP was a happy customer for 8 years seams silly to quit over this minor issue. Calling it a lie is a bit much in my book.

I have gone over pappaone's post a number of times looking for the word "lie" and have not been able to find it...where is it? Anyway, have to agree that often a whole company suffers for the poor performance/misstatements of single employees. If CW wants to continue to turn a profit, I would hope that it listens to all complaints and takes any appropriate action...rather than just blowing them off as silly.

I understand your complaint. But you where probably speaking to a low level employee who either misunderstood the program OR the program was not explained to the employee correctly.
These things happen.
Do not let a petty problem ruin your day.
As for cancelling. DO you derive a benefit from GS that you will lose?

Pretty common for companies today giving out vouchers of some type instead of actual discounts. People forget about the vouchers so a lot of them are unused. Sometimes the consumer never receives the voucher and has to remind the company. Seems easy to me. Just say NO to vouchers.

I do things like this from time to time but only when you get the voucher at the point of sale. Good Sam is notorious for taking weeks to come thru on their deals. I received a $10 off coupon the last time I renewed. Took about 6 weeks to get it and then I tried to use it online only to find out I had to pay full price then mail in the coupon and they would refund the $10 to my card (another 6 weeks). No thanks, just went to Amazon and ordered the same thing $15 less than their price anyway. I have tried very hard to support Good Sam/Camping world but they make it difficult. I will keep the membership anyway just because of the 10 percent RV Park discounts but that is the only reason.

On the other hand we went to eat the other day (tourist town) and they had a promotion where you got a giant beach towel with a $50 gift card. Our meal was $85 so I bought two gift cards, got two free beach towels, then used the cards to pay for the meal and tip. Instant reward, that's the only way I will do promotions now.
