Not sure why folks are jumping on the OP. The complaint makes perfect sense and they were in the right. OP... I am a bit of a gearhead myself and have used roadside service in the past to get tows from garage to shop for alignments and exhaust work. I have found it is easier to just play dumb. In your case the tow truck driver would carry a jumper set as standard equipment. You could have mentioned the issue to him and suggested maybe he try a jump first to save the hassle of towing.
The roadside call center is staffed with reps not mechanics whose job is to get a tow vehicle to you. Diagnosing with them can become a real headache.
