Need vehicle towed approx. 27 miles to home for repair.

I too was told that the Platinum plan had 100 mile towing, which is apparently only a sales pitch! They will say ANYTHING to sell you! Once again a perfect example of "BUYER BEWARE"!

Thanks. I was in hurry when renewing from my 10 year regular membership earlier this year and was focused on two things. One I needed my other trailers covered, car trailer etc, and two I wanted some allowance to tow the vehicle to my home. I understand that once it's home no other towing would be covered.

I thought I had both those avenues covered with the Platinum level based on reading the one brochure I had at the time, but obviously I was in error.

Oh well, the vehicle in question is back in service. Failed fuel pump, which of course is in the tank and the tank is of course a real pain to remove. Not to mention the 15 gallons of fuel that had to be drained from it first.

Book rate at the independent mechanic was 4.5 hours @ 110/hr. plus some sort of hazardous material handling fee (for handling the fuel I guess) and of course tax. I don't know what a dealer service would charge.

New Oem fuel pump/sending unit: $318 at Oreillys, $330 at napa, $180 at rockauto with 4 days to ship and about the same at GM parts direct, and $197 from Amazon with free two day shipping. I went with Amazon.

Job took me Saturday and Sunday to complete, don't recall how many hours each day but they weren't full days. It ended up being a 6 beer, 3 swear word job by the time it was over. :)

Not sure about GS, but I have Coach-Net and have twice had my car towed to a place of my choosing that was not necessarily the closest qualified repair facility. Once when I had 2 blowouts from a road hazard, I researched and found a tire store that had in stock the tire I wanted. It was about 8 miles and further than other tire stores that did not have what I wanted. And once when I blew a heater hose on the freeway 3 miles from home, I had it towed home so I could fix it, not to a repair facility.

BTW that nearest center is "qualified" center. As an example when my BMW died last sunday the operator said there was a Firestone about 4 miles away. I responded Firestone is going to work on BMW trans issue. She said good point where do you want to go. I told her BMW by house was closed and can't leave anything on street but my house is only a mile or so from there. She said give me address and she said no problem we can take it to house. Only stipulation was they would not tow it a second time to get to a shop. Which is fair.

No, not for the Platinum or the regular plan. Only the Platinum + (Plus) will allow you to choose where to take it up to 100 miles. Platinum will tow it to the nearest approved service center, same as regular. All the plans do unlimited (mileage and dollar) towing, but the keyowrds are "to the nearest service center". Read up more here.

Unsure if this is correct place to reply, but I was just at CW during the weekend and a GS member. The CW rep was telling me about the benefits of the GS RSA and she underlined the unlimited towing.

so shouldn't they have towed your vehicle the 27 miles? just checking, in case we are ever in that situation.

Platinum Plus is the one that will tow you 100 miles.

I,d look in the book for a towing company that will flat bed it. 27 mile should be a piece of cake.
