Mark up is not a bad thing most business that hire 3rd party vendors mark up their services to the end user. Otherwise why get involved. GS has to make a few calls locate the tires etc. Now the the consumer could do some of this leg work themselves if they chose to but in this case they did not ...at least not initially.
So GS does the calling and leg work and ultimately marks up the item to be paid for their services. There is no crime here.
I doubt many pay hundreds of dollars for Good Sam to secretly charge them hundreds more if they dare use the service. WE PAY them hundreds to make those calls ALREADY. Saying it is only fair they charge us AGAIN because they actually had to call a tire shop is crazy. Why get involved?? Um, because we pay them hundreds to get involved. If they are going to charge you hundreds IN ADDITION to the membership, that should be made clear if it is an HONEST charge. NOBODY would pay membership if they knew GS would scam them out of hundreds for a phone call. Do you think ANY roadside insurance company would be in business if they CHARGED you 300 bucks for calling them instead of the closest repair shop? Everybody has cell phones. It takes a minute to find a list of closest shops and a second to call one. What, exactly, do you think we pay membership fees FOR? To pay EXTRA? They advertise that they pay the $100 service call. They "forgot" to mention the 300 buck secret profit when you call.
There is a reason why their stock prices skyrocketed. Pretty clear where extra profit is coming from.
