NEVER call for a tire- RIP OFF
Last weekend we were camping in Okeechobee, FL. Sunday morning I saw my rear inner dual was flat. I mean one side of tire missing, (had driven there in driving rainstorm.) I called good Sam. I've had tires brought out before, and it cost $500 or so. Been a couple of years at least. Being Sunday, all tire stores were closed.
The girl got back to me with a price of $750. This seemed, um, excessive.
I said give me a while to decide. I called locally to see if I could do it cheaper. There was 2 local companies on the little KOA campground map ads. I call one, told him the cafe were I was sitting, and the guy says I already called. I said no, and he said some roadside assistance company I never heard of (I guess Good Sam uses someone else for these calls?) I said $750 was too much. He was a LITTLE surprised. The actual total, for the Goodyear 245 70R 19.5, was a hair under $500. When he was fixing it, he said he knew, when they said the caller changed his mind, that they had tried to rip me off.
I paid $500, INCLUDING the $95 roadside emergency charge.
Good Sam had DOUBLED the tire price.
If you have no spare, save yourself $250 and just call the local guy. It will be the same guy, the same tire, but no $250 upcharge.
Funny, I thought I PAID Good Sam yearly (for 12 years) and THAT was their profit. It isn't. Sure, I'll call for towing or break downs, but never for a tire.
