No more member discounts in stores

This just happened recently. I went into a Camping World today to check out a possible major purchase and to actually purchase something much cheaper. While at the register I provided my membership info and asked for clarification on the major purchase - if the priced was with or without my discount. I was politely informed that discounts have been terminated. They're now issuing reward points whenever you make a purchase, which can be redeemed on future purchases.

It's amazing that I can get a dozen emails a year about stuff I don't need but they couldn't be bothered to notify members of this major change.
  • Inflation, cost of everything has gone up. If you know who to blame let me know.
  • I just got an email with a 20% off of certain things in the camping world store. I get at least 1 email a month.
  • This has nothing to do with inflation. It's about a major business decision that was NOT communicated to members.

  • I always looked at it as the member price was the real price, and the nonmember price was to motivate people to join.
Another huge disincentive for me is this year's campground directory. It used to contain many monthly general discount coupons. I got a lot of great deals with them and shopped there often. Not any more, I think there is only one. The remaining coupons are for specific items (for example grills or camp chairs).
It seems like the only benefit now is Goodsam campground discounts.

  • Member discounts are still in effect in store. Online discounts are not.
  • My in-store receipt says otherwise. I actually emailed Marcus because the in-store member price was $3 higher than the online price.

Many times the online price is lower than in the store. If the difference is substantial, I show it to the clerk, and they always give me the lower price (unless it says online only).
  • Conflicting information given here. Many years ago I ceased shopping at their retail stores due to noncompetitive prices and sales staff attitudes. Amazon, walmart and ebay plus craigslist and Facebook marketplace are my friends now and for a long time. Amazon has great delivery times and options for me. No waiting in lines. The 4 Rs of life are great.
