Not worth it
We signed up for Good Sam Roadside Assistance in July. This was our first real RV trip in the Class C, an older unit and we were a little concerned about taking a 5,000 mile trip. Sure enough, getti...

This thread got me to thinking about my coverage. I had never really looked at it since I first signed up. I carry the brochure in my glovebox in case I need it. Anyway, I looked at the online copy of the brochure to see what was different between platinum and non-platinum service with regards to towing. Both of them had this same statement:
If you make any request for your vehicle to be taken to a location other than the nearest professional service center, including your home, the mileage fee (for the extra distance in excess of the nearest licensed repair center) will be at your expense.
If you request to be towed to a location other than the nearest professional service center, as described above, you will not be entitled to any additional towing services for the same disablement. A request for a tow to your home would also require additional payment if that distance exceeds the distance to the nearest professional service center.
In reading the OP's situation, I would think he should have known that he had the option to tow elsewhere. However, the GS dude, realizing how stressed a member is during this type of situation, could have said something like, "Remember, we can assist with towing to some other location, but you would have to pay the difference." I can understand his frustration.
All said, none of the "bad" customer experiences I have read about in the forum have shaken my faith in Good Sam. Some day, I may learn something else from experience. Until then, I am happy to have the sense of protection I feel now.
