I sure wish they would put an end to these "Ask Marcus" forums. It is giving Good Sam and Camping World brands a bad reputation that really isn't deserved. There is no company more dedicated to serving the needs of the RVing community, yet for reason people feel the need to continually bash away at them for the most minor of perceived offenses.
I don't agree totally with this. Yes, there are a few who have posted a complaint for the most minor of issues, but there have been some who have posted about horrendous problems that would have never been solved without this access to the high level management. While it does seem that Camping World is starting to share the same phenomena that plagues Walmart (the company everyone loves to hate), it also seems that most of the problems posted on here that did take high level management to solve should have been solved at the store level.
I agree it is nice to see that some people's problems are possibly solved, though we actually almost never get a confirmation that that has occurred. My personal concern is I affiliate my parks with Good Sam. If the brand suffers enough damage, I will have to make the decision to leave the Good Sam network. that would be detrimental to Good Sam members since there would be less parks in the system offering discounts to the membership. What Good Sam does in it's call centers, stores, ERS, insurance and financing has nothing to do with the operation of my RV parks. But if the brand tarnishes enough, being affiliated with them will hurt me. I don't know how many individual transactions occur daily at Good Sam and Camping World locations, but I would bet it is in the upper five figures at least. The number of complaints posted here are beyond insignificant as a percentage of the customer contacts made by Good Sam and Camping World. Yet, by giving the complaints such a big platform (basically 7 separate forums) it makes it appear that Good Sam and Camping World is incompetent and by association, my parks are incompetent. If having a direct contact to management is beneficial to Good Sam, Camping World and the customer, maybe it could be accomplished out of the public eye, off the RVing forums.
While I understand your point, I think it is incorrect. AAA affiliates with independent operations, Firestone and Goodyear allow their logo on independent owned operations, and cellphone companies allow independent resellers to use their brand. I think that virtually everyone understands the Good Sam logo at your facility does not mean it is owned and operated by Good Sam.
If the Good Sam brand becomes tarnished, then it would become less important as a resource to draw in customers, but I doubt it has that much impact now. Of course, Good Sam could protect their brand by posting both sides to the issue and the resolution, but they prefer to hide under their desk and make the customer sign a non-disclosure agreement before resolving their customer's problem.
Affiliating with Good Sam and offering the discount equates to overcharging your customers who do not have the Good Sam membership.
How do you feel about that? Are you overcharging non-member customers so you can give a discount to members? Of course you are, since you would not give the Good Sam discount that put you into a money loosing proposition.
Your post does explain your position on defending Good Sam. You are self-serving and biased.
You are absolutely correct that in your world I overcharge. I am self-serving, because that is what you do when you are in business, you try to make money for yourself. Apparently in your world you should never, ever patronize any business that offers any discounts, because they are really in the business of overcharging their customers, and trying to cover it up by offering a phony discount. And why would any business offer any discount that put them into a money losing proposition? I really don't think I am on a one man island if my discounted prices are still profitable.
Maybe you should help out your fellow man by starting a list of all the great businesses that never offer discounts or sales, since by your logic that would be the only businesses that are not overcharging their customers with the normal price. Personally, I really can't think of any. And why are you even on the Good Sam websites, since discounts on RV sites and discounts at Camping World are the primary benefits of Good Sam, thus making them partners with the evil, overcharging parks and stores.
