Other Plans? Any experience of Allstate?

OK been on here for 6 years and never heard of an Allstate plan until today - this tells me something

Maybe the RV plan is new?

I have used their auto roadside coverage, 3x in I dunno how many years. Twice I was on a major freeway, but near a small town, and they got help to me in a bit under an hour. Third time I was in a small town, at Walmart, and right next to an auto shop. But their nearest contracted shop was more than an hour away. I waited 1.5 hours, and finally got some help from Walmart themselves. Then I called Allstate and cancelled.

So I guess I would say they are nice and no hassle, but for any plan you should try to find out how many contracted shops they have.

Lets please leave Coachnet out of this discussion. I have and am still considering it, but want to hear about Allstate vs Good Sam.

I am not looking for more complaints about Good Sam's RSA (I know most of those) but more of a comparison of personal experiences with Allstate.

Look carefully for AAA coverage service from county to county and state to state. All state service is not uniform for all areas. Ask Allstate if they will send a flat bed 40' trailer in the event your RV is not drivable or towable i.e broken rear springs on a trailer. Just print off a road side service policy for Allstate and GS and start checking off and comparing each service. Compare the number of miles each policy will tow before you have to start paying by miles. Does allstate have a RV forum so you can contact other allstate members to learn from their experiences?

I have both. Never used the GS plan. I keep that for when I'm towing my fiver, but I can tell you that Allstate has been great. When the computer went out on my dually I called them to pick it up and take it to dealer, not the local dealer, but my dealer of choice 17 miles farther in the next town. They brought a large flat bed, picked up and delivered to my dealer. Last I've heard about it.

It was started in 1961. And it's rated higher by Top Ten Reviews than GSRSA. Now what this rating really means and how it relates to true customer satisfaction is certainly up for question.

On their site they claim to have 35,000 service providers.

I am in the process of comparing the plans now. I am waiting for Allstate to answer a few questions I put to them. I hope more of you that have atually used Allstate will offer their insights.

One thing about this discussion that always comes up is the idea that somehow these Road Service Plan Companies should all have a forum like this one, or by default they are not as good.

There is no evidence that I can see that this forum in and of itself has improved GSRSA's service. Or makes their service better. I also don't see any evidence that supports the idea that people with complaints would not be just as well served by simply Calling in.

RV.net exists because GSE has many RV related companies like Camping world, MH and Trailer Life magazines, Insurance, RV Sales, The campground Directory, and the Good Sam Club. Those are the reasons for this site. There is a broad range of interests common to a specific group of people.

I just dont see any Road Service Provider starting one of these. What would be the point? It would be one-note song. And therefore I don't consider this forum a plus or a minus in comparing the companies.

I may be mistaken but think that the GSRA contracted with Allstate as their service provider for roadside assistance. This was done several years ago if I remember correctly. Don't have any idea how the Allstate RA plan compares with the GS plan though. Have had the GS plan for quite a few years and am 100% satisfied with it - only used it once however. ;)

Allstate RSA is also marketed by KOA. You may want to check their website for any info from their members if it is available. I personally don't have any experience with Allstate RSA. I currently have GSRSA. Only used them once in about 8 years and it was a positive experience.

It's interesting that you bring this up. On the Allstate web site it clearly states the following:

"All membership plans are products of and are administered by Allstate Motor Club, Inc., 2775 Sanders Roads Ste. E2, Northbrook, IL 60062"

I may be mistaken but I dont see any such statement on the GSRSA site. And further when I asked this specific question on this very forum they declined to answer that question citing competitive issues.

I am not sure but it does make me wonder if GSRSA does subcontract this service out and if so is that one of the driving forces in so many of the complaints seen here?

If it is with Allstate you cant blame them for taking care of their customers first. But this is all speculation until someone explains the GSRSA system more fully.
