Our First Roadside Assistance Experience

We were camping this fall at the Delaware State Seashore Park, near Dewey. When we hitched the fifth wheel back up to head home, I put the truck in drive to ease off the wheel chocks (We had to endure the remnants of Hurricane Michael, with 50 MPH winds and 5 inches of rain overnight). Pulled the first set of checks, then put the truck in reverse to free the other set. Brake pedal went to the floor! Got out and saw brake fluid pouring out on the blacktop. Called Good Sam, and they had a flatbed there within the hour to bring my truck to the closest Ford dealer for repairs. With the help of a good Samaritan in the site for a ride, I was able to pick up the truck and be back on our way in 24 hours.

  • The problem turned out to be the brake pressure sensor, located on the master cylinder. Dealer had to overnight the part from New York. Ironic since that is where we live! My 10 yr old truck is rusting and falling apart piece by piece. Time to think about a replacement.
  • What in the world caused the sudden loss of brake fluid? That could have been catastrophic.
