There might even be usury laws in the state where this happened that are designed to prevent price gouging. Not likely maybe but possible.
As others have pointed out the cost to cutting off parts is not in the time it actually takes to cut it off, it is the time it takes to go to the site, make the cuts and return to their location. It is the fuel to get to you and back. It is the insurance they have if a spark or flame from the cutting torch or equipment burns your rig down to the ground. It is the wear and tear on the cutting tools. It is the pay for the guy who does the work, who quite likely didn't want to work on a Saturday any more than you do, hence he gets time and a half.
I find it very funny that people always say that they pay to much for services they either cannot or will not do.
