Praise for GSC Roadside Assistance & for Queen of Membership
This message is in praise of the towing service I received on April 13 and for Queen, with whom I renewed my GSC membership this morning.
I am so thankful I subscribed to the Platinum assistance program! On 4/13 I was doing some errands when the transmission on my 2000 4Runner went out. I was not on an out of town trip. I called Good Sam and a tow truck was dispatched and arrived at my location within 45 minutes as promised. The Good Sam service person who assisted me indicated that my request to be towed to my Toyota dealership was fine. I was not sure that towing my vehicle when I am in my hometown was part of the coverage and was so relieved to find it is. That one tow reimbursed the annual subscription fee several times over I'm sure.
My next kudos go to Queen. It is my opinion that she went above and beyond by taking the initiative to try to get resolution to a situation I had felt deceived and betrayed about but chalked up to lesson learned.
I called to renew my membership and asked if the special for lifetime membership for veterans is still available. It is and I am now a lifetime member under this special. I next asked if I needed to inform Good Sam about any change in vehicles to which Queen replied affirmatively. I told her I now have a 2013 4 Runner and related the story about my transmission on the 2000 4 Runner going out:
In November 2010 I had to drive to Washington state to transport my father back here to NC. He was very debilitated and it was necessary that I buy an RV to get him here. Needless to say, it was a very trying time. I explained that the Camping World at a location I will not name, told me that my 4 Runner could be flat towed just fine. A permanent towing system was installed. The salesperson also mentioned that he had been in Toyota sales for several years so I would think he knew better. Of course I had no idea that some vehicles cannot be towed flat so did know to question. When the transmission on my Toyota disintegrated and I was towed to the dealer this past April, the mechanics were stunned. One stated that this just does not happen and that "these 4 Runners are bullet proof." Then he walked to the front of the vehicle and saw the permanent tow bar. He asked about my towing it to which I replied I had for over 2 years. He was horrified and said that no Toyota can be flat towed.
Now to Queen's above and beyond reaction. She was appalled and asked if I had followed up on this situation. When I replied in the negative she stated "I'm glad you told me about this." She then said that this will go to, I believe she said, corporate for investigation and that "Good Sam wants it's members to be satisfied." The fact that she could have just commiserated, thanked me for my business and disconnected but instead chose to go forward with this issue is commendable and also very touching to me. Thank-you Queen!
I don't know if Good Sam Club will follow up or not since the incident occurred prior to their becoming associated with Camping World. I hope so but in any case Queen should be commended.
