Your name, address, phone number, who you work for, and known associates are all over the internet. You are a little late to the gate. By the way your post here is also on the internet.
Some of what you say is correct however, this information is not "all over the internet" about me as you say. And while you may find some information you will not find it all.
I do not have a facebook page nor do I ever connect to facebook through one of the icons that appear on other sites. Facebook is the prime culprit in privacy issues on the net. People just do not realize that when they post to Facebook they no longer are in control or OWN that information.
I am well aware of the internet and how it works. I have been using it since it was the DARPA Intranet in pre-Internet days. I have also been in the forefront of every company I have owned or worked for, to keep private information private for my employees, customers and myself. I am not a novice at privacy issues or use of, and what can and cannot be done with, the internet.
That is why I posted this. This GS policy represents a needless carelessness and lack of concern for customers privacy.
I commend you for recognizing this as a problem and for taking a stand on this issue. It is important the people recognize how much our freedom has been eroded in the name of freedom. GS should at the very least have a NDA with its member parks and some method to vet out any bad apples. What the news tells us again and again, the vast majority of companies are horrifically lacking in data security and data integrity. I would invite GS to prove the data they share with their member campgrounds have safeguards in place to protect its camping members. The most trustworthy companies are not ones that secure your data but the ones that are forthcoming in proving they are doing everything they can to ensure your information is safe with them.
However as an expert in the field, I can tell you, just because you don't use Twitter or Facebook does not mean you are not all over the internet. If you shopped in Target last year, your credit card could be on the internet, same with Home Depot or dozens of other companies. If your Medical Insurance is with any of the half dozen medical companies that were breached in the last year, then it is not hard to find highly personal information. Also far more of your information is legally accessible thru government agencies. If you read any of Kevin Minnick's books (the hacker turned internet security expert who inspired the movie War Games) you will realize that there is far more information on the net then you realize, that it is extremely easy to find it, or to get it, and how easy it is to compromise a company to get it. If you exist, you are on the net to some degree. The two most important pieces of info you should protect are DOB and SSN.
