I use the Motor Carrier's Atlas, purchased at truck stops, to check unfamiliar routes; if it's not recommended for a trucker then I'm not going that way either. No offense but Good Sam would not be my first choice in route planning. When I did the OP's route it had me leaving northbound out of Angel Fire then east.
I use Google Maps on my laptop and then transfer the route info to my phone for actual use. Nice thing about Google maps is the satellite view and street view to actually see the road when there are questions.
EDIT I'm now thinking the original poster is totally confused on the route he took. The 434 goes through Angel Fire but goes no where near Las Vegas NM. There is no 434 coming out of Las Vegas.
When I checked the route, he should have left Angel Fire southbound on the 434 but would have made a left onto the 120 that would have eventually got him to I-40. If you stay on the 434 southbound you come to the 518, which takes you to Las Vegas NM but, again, this route is not part of Good Sam's route planning or anyone else's that I could find. Pardon me for being blunt but the OP did not use the route that Good Sam planned for him.
