Run around on cracked windshield

We found a cracked car windshield (stone hit) when we returned from our MI Samboree on the car. We have just started tow dolling our car this summer. The wife had called National General before we started towing to find out if we needed any addition insurance.
The wife called National General and talked to a nice lady. She gave her the information on the Motorhome and car. The lady told her they would have someone out on Friday to replace the glass.
About an hour later a man called back from National General the car was not covered but then when the wife said it was being towed he said he had to look at the motorhome policy. He then said he could not find our insurance policy on the Motorhome. She then was told to call Good Sam because they are our agent.
Call number three was to Good Sam who they list as our agent. After several minutes wife was told the car was not covered because we did not have full coverage on the car (car paid off with just basic state required coverage). The car was in tow on a dolly behind the motorhome when the object that cracked the windshield was more than likely kicked up by the motorhome.
Why was it when she called National General (Good Sam Insurance) earlier this summer she was not told that addition coverage was required on the car. We have three vehicles covered threw Good Sam (National General) for over 10 years and will be thinking it's time to shop around for insurance.

I am not sure about what you have but with my policy at 500 deductible when my windshield was broke I just bought a new one cost was about 300 dollars. That way no hassles no insurance rate increase.

With my car insurance, it's $100 to have the windshield replaced. Have had to have it done in my car twice in the last 6 years. No increase.

This actually raises an interesting question. When I am towing, if the towing vehicle causes damage to the towed vehicle, which insurance policy would cover it?

Damage to your car is covered by your car insurance. If you get a cracked windshield from a stone you cannot collect from the driver of the car that kicked up the stone, be it your tow vehicle or other vehicle.

well Judge Judy agrees with you but she was wrong in that one case. a fella was following a dump truck that had gravel stuck when the rear gate lowered and pinned some stones on the ledge. he had photos of the ledge showing some rocks still on there. dumb old Judy evidently had never seen or heard of this happening so ruled in favor of the truck driver. haven't watched here since then.

  • Most auto insurance policies exclude property damage to "any property owned, rented by or in the care of the insured". The exclusion does not apply to your garage or residence. This would mean that the insurance on the vehicle being towed would be responsible for the damages to the "towed" vehicle.

Coverage may vary on your state and your insurance company. Check your policy under Section A. Insuring Agreement.
