RV Coverage for disasters??

While in a N California RV Park, our neighbor had a water pipe break, which got us to check our policy to see if this was covered by the Insurance.
It turns out Fire of any kind would be covered BUT floods and water damage from an internal problem was not !
Further research an calls to other companies also say the same thing.

So here is a general question? Is there an RV insurance you can get like a home warrantee policy to cover the RV and everything in and on it should you be out and about and need a repair ?
Thanks

What you outlined would be considered sudden and accidental which typically would be covered. Drips and leaks over days and weeks generally are not. National Interstate is getting out of the RV insurance business. Their policies were sold to Safeco Insurance and Safeco is currently offering renewals to National Interstate customers as their policies reach the end of their policy term. Safeco offers a good RV product.
  • I'm sorry that you are so confused about Good Sam ESP, Insurance and Extended Warranties in general.

Good Sam does reimburse you up to $160 per day for up to five days for lodging, food and rental car expenses when you are unable to use your RV because of a covered repair. There is no five day limit on the cost of the repairs. Many repairs take weeks. ESP will pay up to the NADA value of the vehicle for covered repairs, and we pay claims day after day. While there are many unethical extended warranty companies out there, Good Sam has been paying claims for 20 years. We routinely pay $8,000 to $15,000 for a blown gas engine, and once in a while we pay out $30,000 or more for a blown diesel pusher. Even a simple refrigerator replacement or repair can take more than five days and we routinely pay for these and many other failures every day. That's why we have more than 175,000 RVers covered by Good Sam ESP- because we do pay claims.

Your homeowners insurance will never pay for mechanical failures. That's not what homeowners insurance is for. Good Sam ESP will not pay for floods, fires, collision or theft. That's what your RV Property and Casualty and your Homeowner's insurance is for.

It's not a question of one being better than the other, they simply cover different kinds of risks.

When we were FT we had a 'home owners' policy on our 'home' (5th wheel) with 'riders' (custom equipment, specialty items etc).
We had a fitting break on back of water heater while connected to 'city water' in CG at Devils Tower.
While asleep the water ran for hours flooding living room/kitchen area
$6000 in damage/costs (motel room, slide out subfloor, carpeting/linoleum, drying out etc)
    Ins Covered!!
    National Interstate.....great coverage/great customer service/great claims agents---no hassles
Heard they are NOT doing FT Coverage anymore.-----have no idea if that is true

    National Interstate

    Here is another FT Insurer

Guess Progressive also writes FTrs Policies
  • Appears you know what should be offered why don't you form a group, start a Ins. CO. and get rich? Or maybe go broke as some of the others have found.

Most Extended Warranties or Service Contracts would cover the cost of repairing the broken pipe, but not the consequential damages caused by the break. The Good Sam ESP available at the Camping World RV dealerships has an optional Consequential Damage coverage that would include coverage for the water damage.

This product is normally offered only when you are buying an RV, but in most states, it can be sold to a customer who did not purchase the RV from Camping World. Worth checking out at your local Camping World!

I hate to say this but this isn't exactly true !

Even if an extended warrantee was trustworthy, there are clauses written in that only benefit the policy seller not the holder.
As to Consequential Damage, the Good Sam ESP you mention only covers 5 days for repairs, so if, IE Camping World were selected to do the work, anytime over the 5 days would be at the owners expense. It should also be noted that ESP only pays $100 per day and a max of $60 for food, and although better than nothing it again is only for a max of 5 days, And if the RV is not livable after that time, means again the owner is out of pocket. Where as my home owners insurance far exceeds ESP coverage, and as a lot of RV's are full-timers there should be a policy inline with fixed property home Owner Insurance.

Besides everyone knows 99.9% of extended warrantee's aren't worth the paper they're printed on. And the only reason the Finance Manager at a Dealership tries to sell them is because he get commission. Whether you buy one or not he still gets a commission because they demand a signature or acceptance or refusal..

Also the scenario I originally quoted was also a question I ask Good Sam, who in turn also stated a water problem would not be covered including the results of the damage. However if the RV was in a flood it would be covered....

Many if not most homeowners policies wont cover damage from a slow leak either. Most if not all homeowners policies don’t cover flood damage hence the National Flood Program. They will cover sudden water damage due to a broken/burst pipe.

  • I'm covered thru my insurance RV policy (American Family Insurance) I know for sure because I lost the trailer in a flood last year. The whole thing was settled in about 3 weeks.
