Photos are suppose to be no more than 640px wide but to your point there is no verification when someone post an image reference.
There is a easy solution if some get lazy and dont want to resize their image - you can add width=640 after the image link. This can be done by the poster of the image - if they would just do it.
Example: ... myimage.jpg width=640 then the closing brackets containing /img.
This does not change the size of the image for downloading which every member will do when they view the image - those on slow bandwidth will still suffer from the larger image but the display will be presentable.
