I originally posted this in the Ask Marcus section hoping to actually get some feedback from camping world, EI: someone in charge...
Instead I got a lot of personal opinions from a lot of forum mmembers (and I respect each and every one, as well as your rights to have and express these opinions.) Still, it wasn't my point to solicit opinion.
My wish for better/easier picture handling has more to do with tech than home movies. I (and many many others here) do a lot of maintenance / repairs / improvements to our RV's. Many of us share these with the group, and look forward to learning from the sharing of others. In many cases, a few before, during and after shots would really help most tech stuff.
I generally find I rarely take the time to do this if it means I need to take the picture... transfer the picture to my computer. resize the picture (even my android phone takes pics that are WAY to big to post), upload it to a hosting site, and then and only then write my thread and link to the hosted pics.
I do in fact own and run my own forum. There is a link to it in my sig.
We fully support and encourage the use of pictures.
We allow unlimited attachment uploads, and our software automatically resizes all pictures to the correct size as the members upload them.
Of course hosted pictures are allowed as well, and our software automatically optimizes the size of these each and every time a user displays them.
And we support forumrunner on both iphone and android. This optimizes the display for each device, and reflows the paragraphs to fit the displayed width, no scrolling left to right is ever required, just zoom so you can read it, and then scroll down as you read.
And if you want to take a pic, hitting the attach button takes you straight to your devices camera, snap the shot and click ok, the pic is resized and uploaded automatically.
As for servers, storage costs basically nothing these days, it is bandwidth you pay for (and if my sites were more active, my hosting would cost me a lot more.) My hosting on godaddy costs $200/year, and I run 14 websites on it. For $200, storage space is unlimited. We use phpbb inside joomla, both are open source (free) software.
Improving support for pictures would vastly improve this forum. (IMHO)
