So my BW and I were on the way from the sticks ’n’ bricks to a bike trail we like to ride. Bikes in the back of the BMW X5, passing thru an area with no cell service, when the in-tank fuel lift pump decided to take a dump. Car shuts off and won’t restart. Pulled bike out and rode up the road a couple miles to where there was cell service and called Good Sam for a tow. Similar story to OP, except involving several rides on the bike and several calls with Good Sam. Total clown show. Started calling local tow companies directly. Nobody wanted to help “until maybe tomorrow.”
On a long shot, called my local BMW service department and asked if they could recommend a tow company. Yeah, they always used so-and-so. Called that company direct, and their guy was there a half hour later. Yeah, we too spent 5 hours on the side of the road in total. Four and a half fighting with Good Sam, and a half waiting on the guy recommended by the BMW dealer.
So here’s my Pro Tip of the Day™: when things get rough, call the service department of the nearest BMW/Mercedes/Volvo/Lexus/Lambo/Ferrari dealer and ask for a recommendation. They will know who actually serves wherever you are in a timely fashion, as their customers suffer no bull when it comes to getting stuff done.
