dkperez2,
Wow, what an ordeal. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of similar cases. We had a tire go down on our diesel pusher. Took a roofing nail in the tread. We run a TPMS, so we were able to get safely into a parking lot of a closed restaurant. NINE hours later someone came to change the tire. The big problem seemed to be that our 2-year old tires were OBSOLETE and none were available and they would have to bring us a new mismatched tire for $600. We said no thank you. The guy who came brought a used tire that had a sidewall patch and advised us NOT to run our TPMS on it. ????? what's up with that?
Long story short, before the guy arrived, I got in touch with Michelin who told me they were still making thousands of these tires and what's more, we were 22 miles away from a tire shop that had over 200 of them in stock. Had we called them ourselves initially (they don't work with GS or Coachnet for several reasons), they would have dispatched a truck who would have removed our tire, repaired it and put it back on, 45 minutes tops. . . and all for $75. What ended up happening was we had the service guy who arrived 9 hours late to change the tire with his crappy used one for $365, then we drove to the tire store and boondocked in his back lot. In the morning at 7:30, their people removed our tire, fixed it, and remounted it. It ran for another 40,000 miles. Incidentally, the guy who did put on the used tire wanted to keep our tire because "it was ruined and he would take it and dispose of it." We said, "No, we'll keep it."
We have since then, carried our own unmounted spare and always will.
I did raise such a fuss over all the lies we were told and could easily prove that our service ended up refunding us our money.
