I eventually got the trailer to safety, and after failing to get a tow the second day (and the experience with the "mobile mechanic), I got it to a nearby shop where it's being repaired.
As for the urination festival over whether or not I lubed the bearings right, or loosened them right or tightened them right or all the other BS, not interested in getting any further involved. I'll leave the second guessing to the very knowledgeable folks with skill sets that ensure they've never had, and never will have a component failure.
