Slide out awning

My living room slide has developed a leak. When it rains water pools on the front 24in or so of the awning, then leaks onto the slide and eventually into the living area. I took it to a local RV dealer (not Camping World) to see if the topper could be tightened or adjusted to prevent this. They contacted Dometic (the slide topper manufacturer). Dometic said that because the topper was over 190in long it should have had a cradle installed. The awning tube was bent because no cradle had been installed from the factory, and my extended warranty would not cover the cradle because it was a modification according to them. And (according to the woman at the dealer)they would not cover replacing the tube because it would just bend again(?) I am willing to cover the cost of the cradle if my warranty would cover the bent tube.

Good Sam will take care of the cost of the bent tube. Please fax or e-mail me the final bill and I'll make sure that you are reimbursed for the cost of the tube. Please include your policy/contract number with the invoice.

Does my warranty cover labor to replace the tube? and I pick up the cost of the cradle.

At one time there were inflatable devices to place between the topper and the slideout roof. These were to stop the flapping of the awning maybe something like that would keep the water from pooling.

It sounds like the roof of the slideout needs a repair to stop the leak. Your slideout roof should not leak.

I've ran silicone sealer along the edge of the roof, but I have had to do it each year for the past couple of years, and I'm tired and want a permanent fix. And an inflatable device means getting up there on a ladder even for an overnighter. I might as well just leave the slide closed.

  • So if you put a new topper on with the proper support I still don't see how this fixes water getting in .But nobody has/addressed this issue.Sounds to me like they don't like that dealers claims
