Good morning everyone. As you can see I am a lifemember. I have not been active in a local chapter at all. Really have not taken the C out for a long time, due to the DW health issues. That situation has chnged. I was wondering how many here on this forum are active in a local chaper. I thought I would like to maybe get invonved here locally. I sent out 3 emails, one email to each club asking for info. NO REPLY!!!!!! HHHHMMMMMMM, what does that mean?I have been a member of Good Sam for a number of years on the RV.NET site. That was all I could do at that time. Got any clues on how you get intouch with the local chaper.Saw in another post, a membership card called, SMILE AND SWIPE. What is that? The wife and I are members and officers of a local chapter.Keep in mind that all the state directors, assistants, and chapter officers are volunteers and work many hours with no pay. We do it because we have a passion for the club.I have heard the complaint many times that someone is looking to join a chapter but get no response. On the other hand there have been times that I responded to a request for information but got no further reply. Your state director may be able to refer you to an active local chapter. We have no requirement for membership other than that you are a Good Sam member.Have you attended Samborees in your state? It appears your state has one annual Samboree and the next one is scheduled Sept. 25 - 28, 2014 in Sedalia, MO. A state Samboree would be a good place to meet people, make friends, and possibly find a chapter that would fit your interests.I hope you find a chapter that suits your needs and style. It is great to have a circle of camping friends to share with.In spite of the 'Smile and Save' thread, it is actually "Swipe and Save". It is a discount available at Pilot/Flying J for Good Sam members on fuel and some other purchases.

Bill, another thing you might wanna try is people on the forum here around in your area. We've met a couple families from the forum while camping at ocean lakes in myrtle beach. One of them lives within an hour of us and we stopped by to see them another member of the forum while they were camping in a local campground. We have stayed in contact on here with them and hope to get to camp with them sometime this year. Another family that we met in myrtle beach a couple years ago, we saw this past summer again at myrtle beach. They live further away, but they like to go to one of the places we like. I'm sure we will see them again.

Thanks everyone for your reply. I now have the email address of the state director. I will start there and see what happens. It sounds like fun. Having a group of people you can go camping with.

We are also members of our local chapter. I can't give you any help other than what other chapter members have already given you. We have campouts during the summer and meet for lunch once a month during the winter. The campouts are on weekends but some people arrive as early as Wednesdays.

I have been a chapter member for about 10 years. At one time belonged to two chapters. One of the trouble is getting younger members to join. Now to sure why except maybe the chapters have not keep up with the new generation.
Also some chapters just are not a good fit. Some go out mid week and that doesn't work for the working crowd. Our chapter started as a spin off from another chapter as the members were not that happy with the strict structure plus it was very large like 30 plus members.
Some members want a strict structure so keep on looking and get a hold of your state director and that might help.
We do our camp outs from Thursday to Sunday with a couple coming in on Friday (working) and a few even come in on Wednesday.
We have developed a strong group of friends over the years that we cherish very much.

I understand what you meant about the lack of response. A couple years ago I did the same thing and out of about 5, only one responded. Well I take that back. A few months later another responded, but they were having serious health issues and after a short email exchange, it sounded like everyone in that chapter were about in the same boat or elderly. Being that we are in our 40s and still have a kid, we were looking for a chapter that had some younger people in it. The other chapter that responded sounded nice and had some younger folks, but they were further away and their choice of where they camped did not really jive with our style. We may give it another try when it gets warmer.
