Stuck on the Highway

My husband is currently stuck on a busy freeway in Denver, Colorado where 2 highways intersect on a Friday afternoon. He has been waiting more than 2 hours for GSRA and they still are not there. He has a broken fan belt with the toad on the back. Ugh! We will be looking at Coach net. This is the second time in 2 months that we've needed something and no help. Someone is supposed to be on the way, but we are not getting a "warm fuzzy" feeling at this point. I'm just hoping he gets home before dark now!

Yes, but with reasonable expectations that the service might not be instantaneous depending on the time of day, the weather, and the amount of service calls.

We lived in Colorado for 10 years. Had a terrible cold snap - temperature never climbed above zero for almost two weeks. Had to go outside and start/idle the car every 4-5 hours to keep it from freezing up. Fell asleep for 8 hours, went outside, no start. As a goof, we called AAA - they gave us an estimate of 2 DAYS for someone to come out.

So here's the question - do I drop AAA because they didn't have someone to immediately come out to try to start my car?

  • Having had to wait on road service for my semi 2 hours is not really all that bad. They have to locate a company with the right equipment, the tech may have to finish a road call he was on, go back to shop and retool, get parts for you and travel to you. I once waited 4 hours for a steer tire 2 miles from the truck stop. Just had to wait my turn.

Yep its frustrating, but if we need road service, we just assume its going to be at least 2 hours.
  • Quite the contrary - it's Friday afternoon in a major metropolitan area, better known as "Rush Hour," and they're probably swamped with calls. It happens.

I spent a few years working for the AAA Emergency Road service call center in Garden City, NY as a call taker. We handled the entire New York City/Tri-State area. The place was a zoo every Friday afternoon.
  • Gosh, Denver is a major city. One would think Good Sam could get help to them rather quick without having to get upper management involved.
  • OP, it looks like you have the attention of the big guns. As such, I have high expectations it will work out for you, so please let us know when the smoke settles.
