- PennyPAExplorerDutchman, I agree. Constant use (9x in 10 years and 115K miles) is so totally questionable. I would probably agree even more if it was for the same thing over and over and over and over........ya' know what I mean?
- LyricsExplorerBack in 2001, I probably called GEICO 8 times in a two week period for a jumpstart. After the 3rd or so time, I asked if they wouldn't rather provide me one of those jump start things instead of having to send a tow truck to jump me every time. The lady laughed and said no, they'd keep sending the tow truck.
My kids were young, and would turn on a light in the very back of my van (where I couldn't see it) and it would drain the battery every time. I finally removed the bulb.
Anyway, until this thread, I'd never heard of any RA dropping someone, eek. - DutchmenSportExplorer

I think Mr. Whites response laid this to rest. It seems like possibly a simple key-stroke mistake in imputing a membership number.
As for those of you taking people to task for too much usage please define exactly and under what circumstances too much is.
Autos and trailers and MH's are complex machines with many systems. These systems can fail regardless of how much preventative maintenance is done and leave you on the side of the road.
While regular maintenance MAY play a PART in reducing breakdowns I think most of it is sheer dumb bad luck.
Tell me what kind of maintenance could have prevented the pin in my rear differential from coming loose and shooting out of the case on I80 in Wyoming at 9000 miles on the Odo? C'mon get real.
It's not the once or twice occurrence I'm questioning. After all that IS the purpose for assistance. It's the constant usage I question. I take sides with the assistance program here. - 4X4DodgerExplorer III think Mr. Whites response laid this to rest. It seems like possibly a simple key-stroke mistake in inputing a membership number.

I'm glad to hear most of you haven't had many (if any) problems. I assume you're all full-timers?

Lost a wheel and tire on your trailer 3x? Wow - that's bad luck.
Glad your issue was just an error and that you've not been dropped.
If you loose a wheel and tire off your trailer 3x it's not bad luck. You are either doing something wrong or something mechanical is amiss. - wbwoodExplorer

My problems were varied. Locked out once, flat tire on truck once, flat tire on trailer twice, lost wheel and tire on trailer 3x, something wrong with truck brakes twice (not our fault! Poor brake replacement). I think that's it...over a period of 10 years. BUT, just got a call from Josh at Good Sam Roadside Assistance and he said we received that letter in error. Yeah, right. Any way, he apologized for the company so I guess we will keep them for now.
That's 9 instances in a 10 year period. Stuff happens. When it rains, it pours. Does sound like a bit much in my opinion. But they said it was a mistake. Glad it worked out for you. - fitznjExplorerI'm 58 and used breakdown service once in the past 25 years due to the ECU in the tow truck dying. When I hear of people using the breakdown service repeatedly (lost 3 wheels and tires ?????) then I start to think that maybe it's all about vehicle/trailer maintenance;
BTW - how often are the lugnuts checked? -
Reminds me of poeple who have multiple car accidents and then complain that the insurance company dropped them - where is the blame? - GordonThreeExplorer

Sheesh ... you guys must be kidding or something! I'm 60 years old and have carried some kind of road side assistance through my auto insurance company for... probably. .. 30 years and NEVER had to use it. What are to all doing that warrants assistance so much .... driving your vehicles into the ground and not doing any kind of self maintenance? Sorry, there just something wrong if anyone uses a service like this as so much. I suppose some folks just don't take care of their automobiles or are simply scatter brained. SoundsIke some folks are using road side assistance as their personal auto repair shop. Are people really that scatter brained to repeatedly lock or forget their keys?
ive only needed roadside twice in a brief 22yrs of driving , once when I wrapped around a telephone pole off a black ice road, and once when my fuel pump quit on the expressway ... both were flat bed tows.
made it all the way to alaska and back, over 12000 miles truck 'n trailer and didn't need a roadside once.
