I just got back from a 5500 mile trip and used Pilot/Flying J almost the whole time. I never had an issue. There were times I needed to go in and the checker told me that I could prepay for any amount and it would only charge what I used. So if I know I needed at least $170 I'd get $185 on prepay.
I used GasBuddy and there were sometimes cheaper prices, but it wasn't more than 2-3 cents, which isn't worth driving more than 2 mile to get.
I used a VISA, which has a $150 per transaction limit at the pump, but not inside.
