So...the CG has access to confirm membership and provide benefits more readily than the "card printing" department of GS. Interesting.
Apparently the CG's do have better access because they did a GS membership validation search using my phone #, and gave me a printout with my name, address, GS membership #, and expiration date.
This was in Canadian RV parks too.
