The ratio of Canadians RVing in Mexico vs Americans has always been between 4 to 1 and 2 to 1. Canadians do not get exposed to as much negative publicity and we hear a lot of negative publicity about safety in the US, so it does not make much difference from our perspective. That is the only explanation I can think of.
I have never come across a Canadian RVing forum, come to think of it. Considering Canadians make up the bulk of snowbirds you would think there would be a forum dedicated to that, but I can't find one.
You will never see a helicopter gunship chase down a drug dealer with bullets flying in the U.S.
You will never see a military roadblock in the U.S.
You will never be asked to pay a "fine" to a Police Officer in the U.S.
Do I make myself clear?
There plenty of cases of US police offiers accepting bribes (try googling it). Also in Mexico you never hear of random nut jobs going into movie theatres or schools and shooting innocent people. Also there are few Mexican serial killers on the loose. To be quite frank, I actually feel a lot safer in Mexico than I do in the US. You are far more likely to see the average Mexican teenager sitting in the square with his family in a Saturday night than hanging around a 7-11.
Some bad people down there? Sure, but they seem to be much more defined and avoidable.
The average Mexican citizens has no access to potent firearms. We all know if they did there would have been a revolution years ago.....Yea, I feel real unsafe walking in Downtown Salt Lake City.
BTW-I have lived here all my life and have never been accosted in ANY WAY, in any of the 42 states I have visited. And never asked for a bribe from a Police Officer. It sounds like you just need to not visit the U.S. if you feel that unsafe and we have a bunch of corrupt Police.
I was trying to avoid this sort of degeneration of this topic. If you feel unsafe going down there, that is fine, nobody is forcing you. 1000's have RVed down there with no incident and continue to do so. You can end up in the wrong place at the wrong time anywhere, like the couple who were murdered in their Class A, here in BC 2 years back. Life is not about being 100% safe, it's about enjoying yourself. As for firearms its probably a good idea the average citizen does not have access or maybe there would plenty of school & Movie Theatre massacres like we see happening in the US. I imagine they also have a mentally unstable portion of their population that would be inclined to do things like that if they had easy access to firearms as Americans do. Not to get into that controversy, but you raised it, so I responded. You have answered one of my questions, I will mark you down as being too scared to RV below the border which was questuion #1.
