Lets stuck to the subject. The whole gun issue is a no win argument. You either agree with it or disagree and nobody is going to change anyone else's mind. BTW Mexico does have strict gun laws, don't even think of trying to take either a gun or ammo across the border. Anyone you may encounter armed is likely to have far more firepower than you do. in 10 years of spending 5 months a year down there, i have yet to see a gun except on a policeman or soldier. Since I stay away from drugs, I have never knowingly come in contact with any drug cartel member.
