Professional repair is expensive due to the amount of labor time involved and it's not a project for you neighborhood RV service center. The skill set to do it right is a bit specialized to make the end result look showroom new if repairs are made from the outside in.
For a DYI owner I advocate approaching the repair from the inside out. You can hide the work and any new seams or cuts behind wallpaper, trim work and such. If you take careful notes and images as you remove layers and rebuild with new material in the reverse the job really isn't very difficult. One additional step I would add that the builders don't do is to paint or somehow seal and new wood.
