First thing I would check is your 30 amp male to 50 amp female adapter.
The single hot in the 15/20 AND in the 30 amp end of the 30/50 should tie to BOTH hots in the 50 amp end of the 30/50 adapter.
Assuming you are safe working around 120 VAC: On the female end of the 30 amp male to 50 amp female:
Outer straight (either one) to center straight (neutral) or center round (ground) should show 120 VAC. Center round to center straight should show zero.
