12 volt electrical system

I just bought a 2010 Winnebago Aspect, 28ft. The only real issue I have is the 12 volt electrical system doesn't work. I replaced the two batteries but still no power to couch lights, fan, etc. All work when hooked up to main electrical source or generator. Any suggestions?

It could also be a bad/broken ground connection at the battery. I had to replace my battery ground lead due to a broken terminal on the original one just the other day. Suitable cables are neither expensive nor hard to find at auto parts stores, Wal-Mart, etc. (assuming you don't have huge current needs like a largish inverter or solar install).

This probably is a simple case of the battery disconnect switch being OFF. On my Winnie, it's right by the entrance steps low on the wall on the left side. There are a couple of other things that could cause it too but not many.

You really should have asked at a shop or visited here BEFORE spending money on batteries that might not have been bad.

A multi-meter is a necessary tool for an RV owner.

P.S. If yours works like mine, a similar thing can happen with a complete loss of AC power......if you forget to plug the shore power cord back into the generator socket after you unplug it from the pole. :S
  • battery disconnect switch needs to be on. There is an automatic circuit breaker that occasionally will fail.
  • Battery disconnect switch turned OFF

In-line fuse blown (or bad DC circuit breaker) on battery positive cable to converter/dc dist panel

Reverse polarity fuses blown (on converter.
