The cheapest way would be to add another 12 volt in parallel. However, because the batteries will differ somehow, one will charge and discharge faster than the other.
If I were to do a system the "right" way, I'd set the 12 volt battery aside and go with two six volt golf cart AGM batteries in series. If there is space available, and one wants to keep using the 12 volt battery, put it on a separate bank, and get a four way, "none/A/B/A+B" battery bank switch, so the two groups of batteries are isolated from each other, but are still usable.
If there isn't space, I'd go with two six volt AGM batteries, since this is a combination that works for a lot of people.
