12V wiring

Had my fridge replaced. Old was 3-way. Asked if I wanted to replace with same type. Answered yes because I wanted the ability to use 12V if necessary. After install going through instructions and installer said don't use with 12 V because your wiring isn't big enough. I know I don't have enough battery power. Solar/battery/inverter to be added soon. Question, in general, how difficult (which to me translates into $$$) is it to upgrade 12V wiring. If it makes any difference its. 92 Ford E-250 with high fiberglass top
  • IF the org was wired for 12volt , I dont see why it would not still work on 12volt, on 12volt it would run a battery down pretty quick. gas cools the best and uses very little gas.
  • Compare the 12v power consumption ratings on the old one vs. the new one. If they're the same or the newer one draws fewer amps on 12v then your wiring should be fine. But if the new unit uses more amps than the old one you might need to upgrade the wiring. Check the installation manual on the new one and it should tell you the wire size needed.

My guess would be the newer unit is probably more efficient and uses fewer amps though.
  • Check the DC heating element wattage of both old and new if the same(believe that will be the case) you're good to go.
Do metric rm2353 wattage is 150.
    Volt X Amp = watts.
