you should have a electric pump look on the frame above the rear axle on the pass side do you have the manuals?
I do have manuals, but according to the manual the electric pump is a suggested-retrofit to solve vapor lock problems. BUT....the plot thickens and I'm so glad I revisited this thread tonight and thank you for your post. Here's why:
I finally got the new engine installed and everything hooked up. Or enough things hooked up for it to run anyway. Guess what? No fuel to the engine. But when I put the fuel feed into a can of gas, the 454's mechanical fuel pump will suck it right up no problem. But it won't suck it up from the tank. Also, I had previously tried to siphon fuel from the tank from the stock steel line up by the engine. I could not get a siphon going and it took me forever to manually pump 2 gallons out of it with a hand pump.
Here's where it gets interesting. When I put the engine back in, I noticed an obviously non-factory red wire and in-line fuse hanging by the oil filter. It's not hooked up to anything and since I didn't dismantle this thing, I don't know what it would have been hooked up to. It's spliced into a yellow wire that I followed as far as I could along the left frame rail. I lost it at the rear axle. Now I'm wondering if this is for an electric fuel pump that the stock mechanical pump can't suck through? I'm going to put 12V on it in the morning to see what happens.
Back to the generator...I think it's the fuel pump. It won't run out of a gas can anymore. I have a new one on the way.
