- westernrvparkowExplorerRemember, after you spend that $15,000+ (purchase price plus engine, plus who knows what else) you still have a 25 year old RV. Things like the electronics are going to be very dated. Plumbing is reaching the end of it's life. Carpeting, upholstery and the other fixtures will be dated and probably prone to failure. Might be a project you will enjoy, but you will almost assuredly end up with a rig that cost more than it is worth.
- desertratt1Exploreranyone familiar with at500 allison transmission vs AT542? the coachman has AT542 and Bounder has AT500. Thanks for all the post lots thinging going on haha..
- Two_JayhawksExplorerI had a 1995 Bounder Diesel and loved it, solid coach. It had an Allison 6 speed & diesel genny. In 95 the little 5.9L was rated at 230 HP & I believe 640 torque. That coach was also capable of 10 mpg.

^^^^ X2 they are in KY. - timmacExplorerFind a low mileage GM 8.1 with transmission and install it where the diesel is, it can be done and cost a lot less..

- MrWizardModeratori burned the s^^^^ out of our 5.9l cumins, it did not affect the transmission one bit

under $8000
diesel PARTS are not cheap
that engine swap starting to sound like a real nice idea - desertratt1Explorerok i have a 1993 coachman santara i bought has major roof leak needs inside and outside sheeting replace on first 8 ft right now has a tarp on it. also it has major delamination issues. it has a 5.9 also 72k miles thinking of taking it out and parting it out and putting in the Bounder which has a great body. One concern i have is the Bounder has hydraulic breaks oshkosh chassis and allison at500. the coachman has spartan chassis and pacbrake and air brakes. the coachman is fixable but wont be cheap thus the possible purchase of the bounder. one concern is when the bounder 5.9 overheated would that effect the allison transmission? thanks for the in put.
- mowingmanExplorerYou could probably find a good takeout engine with some warranty for under $5000. Of course, you, or someone will still have to install it.
- Passin_ThruExplorerNew motor is 12,000. OH kit is 3-5k and you still have to buy bearings and seals. Labor is double what the OH kit is if you do it yourself so figure 8-12K.
