1995 Bounder water heater inside access

I need help finding the inside access for the water heater in our 1995 Fleetwood Bounder 31k. We have an Atwood 6gal propane only electronic ignition water heater. Looking for access to the back or sides of the unit where plumbing would be. Can not locate an access panel on the inside of coach. Thanks!

  • My after market electric element had me zip tie the thermostat to the safety valve. Easy to wire up that way with it right there next to the element in the drain hole too.

    Can't you just do that?

Thanks for your help. On our model, the compartment next to the water heater has the converter mounted to the wall and no visible access to the heater.

  • Thanks, Eric, for the quick response and information.

The reason I would like access to the tank is to install a Camco Hybrid Electric kit #11673. This would add electric heating of the water to our present propane electronic ignition Atwood heater. The instructions want the new thermostat mounted with sticky tape to the top or sides of the tank - about 3x5" area. I am not able to physically crawl under the unit, so I'll need to ask for help from a neighbor.

Just one more reason I like this forum.
Folks that know cause they have one, had one, worked on one or ???

I would have torn drawers out, panels in cabinets out etc. before looking underneath rig

AH the joys of RV Repair :B
  • Crawl underneath the motorhome and look up at the water heater location .... There is a sheet metal access panel that is held by 8 or 10 screws.... Remove that panel and the plumbing is right there....
