You would need to strip each end of the short piece of wire so the copper portion is visible.
Then remove the rubber cap, if it is present.
Hold one end of the short piece of wire to one of the large posts
touch the other end to the other large post
The starter should engage.
The ignition switch does not have to be on for the test. If this works, turn the ignition switch to the on position. Jumper large posts again. If everything else is OK the engine should start. May have to hold jumper on until engine fires.
Starter is down toward the bottom of the engine. It is about 4 inches in diameter and a foot long. It will be partially hidden by the exhaust pipes.
