1999 36' Damon Intruder?

I purchased a 2000 Thor Hurricane two years ago (15,000 original miles) and put almost 4,000 miles on it last year. All appliances worked except the heater. I had to clean the dirt dauber nests from the fan.

I replaced the tires and batteries last year; swapped the incandescent interior bulbs for LED bulbs; added a Rear View wireless camera system; resealed the roof and windows; oil and filter changed; repaired the windshield wiper arm inserts; bought a new fire extinguisher; replaced the TVs with flat screen TVs.

Last week I started going through the motor home and replacing the things that are aged: Shocks, serpentine belt, and radiator/heater hoses. I also purchased a kit and polished the headlight lens. I replaced the 1157 incandescent tail/stop light bulbs with LED bulbs. I replaced a bad windshield defog fan.

I am going to replace the CO and smoke detectors before the first trip this year and add a SuperSteer rear track bar.

I am a DIY type person and have a well equipped shop and covered garage area to work in.

The little things add up, but I know what I have when I finish "maintaining" the motor home.

Thanks for all the replies. We went for it! I have a small list of concerns we're addressing before camping season gets here but we're excited to give the Class A camping life a try! Now we just need to get the 5th wheel toy hauler and Freightliner Sportchassis sold, lol.

The 99 V-10 had 275 horsepower,the 2000 had 310 h.p. This MH could have either chassis.You have to check the vin number,but I wouldn,t be afraid of the 99.I have a 99 V10 I,ve had for 14 years and no major problems,engine or chassis.

I doubt that you will be dissappointed with the Intruder. We have a 2000 with 89000 miles on it, love how it rides and handles and the workmanship is above average in the coach. Very very happy with it and would buy another Damon unit without hesitation. The Ford V10 offers plenty of power as well, averages 9.8 alone, 7.5 pulling our car.

The transmission to which you refer is the 4R100. We have it in our 2005 Excursion mated to a V10. It has been a reliable transmission for our uses towing a 6000# TT, with 125K on the clock. We use the Ex mainly for towing so the 125K has pretty much been heavy duty use, including 3 trips from VA to WY (Yellowstone) up and over the divide and many grades.

Now, we did have a front seal leak around 100K. The seal was only $90 but the labor was $1000+ to drop the transmission. I was told that slow speeds with high temps (say summer stop and go traffic) with a load can overheat the fluid causing this problem. Some folks recommend putting on a larger cooler, but I just decided to stay with the stock cooler.

Other than that issue, no complaints.

We went and looked the Intruder last night and it is in really good shape for a 1999. The outside had the typical faded and cracking graphics, just like our 2008 toy hauler, but the important stuff looked really good. We will have it professionally inspected to make sure we're good. The only question I still have is, this is the only class a I've looked at that has the basic column shift Ford 4 speed auto transmission. Should I be concerned?

2005 Intruder 377W (Workhorse) and I like it. No major complaints,,

Minor complaints like loose screws and such are common to all makes and models.

Thanks for the input. I talked to the owner and found out he bought it from the original owner 8 years ago. Under his watch he had an AC problem and an exhaust manifold problem with the motor. He put a new larger AC unit on it (it has 2) and had the heads on the motor completely machined which is supposed to be a permanent repair. He said it's very quite for a gasser and rides nice. He's also fine with us having it inspected so we're cautiously optimistic so far.

I use to own a 2000 Damon Intruder 34 footer, trader it in on a 2007 Winnibago Vista 30 footer. Now I wished I had kept the older Intruder.
