1999 Fleetwood Discovery DP Alternator
May have an alternator problem, were is it located is near the engine? If it is bad and has to be replaced, how much do they run. Has anyone changed the alternator themselves or it has to go to a shop...

Sure. You can check with your brand of alternator for an approved rebuilder near you.
And this should NOT put you on the side of the road. You can always start your generator, which powers your converter or inverter/charger to charge the house battery. Either hard wire or use boost switch to allow house battery to keep up the chassis battery.
