Sounds like the starting battery is dead or not connected correctly. Recheck your new connections.
You should have a switch on the dash that temporarily connects the house batteries to the starting battery to get the engine started. If you do, engage it, start the engine then let it go.
If that works to start you can let it charge for a while try using it again. But, if you have totally discharged the battery it may be toast.
