Yes, four basic potential problem areas:
Batteries themselves
Loss of voltage due to poor connections or too small a gauge wire from batteries to generator
Starter
Motor or generator head problem causing excessive resistance to cranking. If you can get to the crank pulley, you can try turning it over by hand (actually wrench). Be sure you do this in the normal direction of rotation of the engine.
