2001 Winnebago Brave 30' or 2003 Damon Daybreak 31’
Hello, I am new in this forum and I have never owned an RV in my life and neither know anybody who has one. I am trying to decide to buy between two RVs that are my top choices left.
One is a 2001 Winnebago Brave 30' which looks in great condition. It has an Onan 4000 MicroQuiet generator that seems to work pretty well and it also have hydraulic leveling. The odometer reads about 47,000. The MSRP says $79,900. The problem I don’t like is that the owner says that he has never opened the engine lid (the one that is between the front seats). I told him that I will have to see it before I pay for, and he’ll see he’ll figure it out to open. That seemed suspicious for me, but I’ve heard many 454 Chevys have exhaust manifolds problems. Actually, this RV has a Workhorse custom chassis with a Vortec 8100 engine, but I think it’s very similar to the 454, and thus I am going to assume for now that it has an exhaust manifold crack and that I have to replace it.
The other RV is a 2003 Damon Daybreak 31’ with a Ford V10 engine that also looks in great condition. Thus, this second RV is two years newer and it looks much simpler too. The odometer reads about 45,000. It was worth $67,100 when it was new. The problem is that the 5,500 Watt generator didn’t started. The issue here is that the generator looked very old and it didn’t start. The owner said that he was going to fix it. I’ve heard that this Ford V10 engine has problems with spark plugs and that it blows them out of the cylinder heads. By the way, is this a big issue? Like I said, I don’t know much about RVs, but this doesn’t seem to be a structural problem, besides, aren’t spark plugs easy and cheap to replace.
Both of these RVs have tires that look Ok but neither owner says they have the documentation for the year. The owner of the first RV says the front ones are only two years old and that he was going to try to find the documentation. Both of them don’t seem to have roof leaking problems (I saw some YouTube videos about how to spot this type of problem).
My question is which one would you buy, the 2001 Winnebago Brave or the 2003 Damon Daybreak? I’ve heard good things of both of these brand names, Winnebagos and Damons, but which one of them is better? Also, all things equal, which is a better engine the Chevy Vortec 8100 or the Ford V10?
Both of these RVs are selling for almost the same price, but they want $500 more for the Winnebago.
Which one would you buy assuming that the Winnebago has a crack exhaustive manifold issue that will need to be taken care and assuming that I’d have to replace the Damon’s generator?
Thank you!
