2003 ROADTREK 200v QUESTIONS

Hello Everyone,
Im new to this board...My wife and I are going to potentially be purchasing a 2003 RT 200v. 22k miles, 230hrs on the gen, and in very clean shape. $25000<--is this a fair price. Ive read some reviews here and there that make me a bit concerned. If anyone can help me with the following questions I would be most appreciative.

-Is there a drainage problem with the aisle shower? If someone is aware of this - can you please elaborate... Is there a fix?

-Does the ac pan leak into the cabin? again is there a fix if this problem exists? or any other leak suspects?

-Compared to the 190v is this really that much worse in handling/visibility?

-Anything else a RT200 owner could add about thier experiences.

We are a family of 3 (Me, Wife and 5 yr old) and this model really seems to be able to fulfill our needs. Occasional weekend camping (3-4 days) and some road trip.

Thanks you all!
Robert in NY

  • It's not a Class B, but long before this forum had a moderator, 200 's were already pretty established, so they were the only Class C grandfathered into the Class B forum.
The 200 started out as a cut-away chassis like all Class C's, not a van like the 210 which is a Class B.
I hope this explains it, and keeps from starting any big conversation. ;)

  • RTSKI,
I think technically a Class B is a van conversion like the Roadtrek 190's on the Chevy chassis or Adventurous mocels on the sprinter. The body has not been altered (except a fiberglass roof added). The 200 and 210 models remove the back portion of a stock van and place on a new fiberglass shell. B or C doesn't matter too much what you call it as long as it works for you.
Our RT 190 has the shower in the middle of the van. We use it without worry. Sure the floor gets wet but after the shower a quick swab with a towel and you hae a clean floor. Although we prefer a roomy shower in a campground, the aisle shower works fine and doesn't take up any precioous interior space.
Best wishes and good luck in your search.
  • Roadtrek 200v is not a class b? i thought it was... I also heard of the problem with the back window. not having a back door; im ok with... just because on other models I dont see myself using the back doors for extry/exit. I like the fact you can store things in the rear compartment or the 200v... and not in the living space under the seat. I heard that these compartments get wet too though... not just on the 200 but on all other models as well. the shower issue concerns me, just sounds like a poor design. Im having second thoughts now..
  • I recently looked at a 2004 200v asking price was $25,000.00. First, it has no back door and it is not a class b. I noticed little pimples in the fiberglass along the side and later found out that the 200's have a problem with blistering and rear window leaks. The isle shower does not have a pan it uses the entire floor which I felt would take a lot of work to dry it after a shower and if not level you would need a squeegee to get the water into the drain. I passed on it.

  • Thank you everyone for replying, your knowledge is truly appreciated. The 2003 Im looking at has the newer nose/headlights... I noticed some are the older 2002 style. but both are listed as 2003??? Is that the only difference? Just wondering... & thanks again for the warm welcome!

  • Hi Robert,
Seen your Post and know the Moderators are talking to the guy who referred you to outside Forums - they really don't like that.

Do check out the Roadtrek Owner's Group at Yahoo.com - also "classbforum.com." The RT Group has about 3K members, and they are really knowledgeable in all aspects of the Trek. I have an '05, and have been a member before I bought. The classbforum has a small group, but they are truly talented folks, engineers, electrical engineers and the like. I've done the work on mine, so I have had the opportunity to use both, and gleaned tons of good info.

Hope this helps. Enjoy that B, they are very cool and sales are soaring each year.

  • Our 2001/02 RT 200 Versatile is super easy to drive. A Quest minivan was my previous large vehicle experience.

The price of these RV's in this vintage is big bang for the buck. Additionally, RT's are snapped up quickly so it's especially nice you've found one. Congratulations on your find, you're sure to be pleased and will enjoy your RT for years to come, should everything be in good working order.
  • Some quick answers, as I have to run:

I (we) own a 2003/04 200V. I don't know what current prices on used vehicles are, but, order of magnitude, the price seems reasonable to me. You should probably search some used vehicle prices, though. The 22,000 miles is somewhat of a concern to me, but not a deal-breaker. But why so few miles? Generally, like cars, RVs do better being used, so beware if it sat for long periods.

No drainage problem for me with aisle shower, and I haven't even heard of any. You need to be not on a steep slope, or the water will, obviously, flow in that direction, but I have had no drainage problems.

The AC pan may leak into the cabin if you are nose down. Never had a problem with it. Just be aware that parking with the front significantly lower than the rear will cause the water to flow forward. Again, just be reasonably close to (not perfectly, by any means) level.

I have no problems with handling or visibility. I haven't driven a 190 since I bought the 200, but I have no handling issues and haven't really heard of any.

We bought the 200V to be able to take our son and a friend camping with us. It is tight with four, but doable, especially when they are younger. Three works fine. The front beds are OK for kids, and adults in a pinch, but are really a bit short, narrow, and lumpy compared with a real bed. Having said that, we have used them, and they worked out fine.

Only problem we had was leakage into the rear window. That was fixed under warranty and it has not leaked since.

The 200 gives you enormous storage. Be careful not to overload it. I think you'll find it an excellent vehicle for a family with a young child. Hope this works out OK for you.

the specific PW forum offers much more information on b class units.
