one quick way to assess condition is to remove the oil filler cap or dipstick. if either shows signs of varnish cooked on, that shows conventional ( cheaper) oil was used rather than the synthetic called for in most manuals.

ask for service records and see if services were performed regularly

modern motors will last a long time if taken care of.

my 2001 GMC w 4.8L has almost 170K and so far has only needed a water pump and a fuel pump..and synthetic oil and brand name filter about every 4000 miles.

transmission fluid/ filter changed at 100K

I have a '95 RT 190P with a Dodge 318. It has 96K miles on it and uses no oil between changes. I use Mobil 1 10W30. I have had it for the last 3 summers and enjoy it. 17 mpg on the highway. I came out of a restaurant last year and a fellow was waiting for me offering $15K for my MH.

Considering one with 135k miles on it. Would mostly be used for short trips Dallas to Houston for medical care for my husband. I have a 1990 LER Dodge 318 engine with 150k miles. Only major repair was a rebuild transmission. $ 2500.00 Runs like a top.

I have a 1999 leisure travel van with a dodge 360 engine with 180,000 miles on it. Had to replace the intake manifold gasket. Other than that everything else has just been minor. Someday something major will likely happen and I will deal with it then.

My 1997 Xplorer 230XL with Dodge 360 engine has 169,000 miles and is running well. I keep up on all maintenance. I just drove from Michigan to FLA where I'll be for 8 weeks before driving back.

We have a 1996 Dodge, 190P RT. Other than changing out all the belts and hoses when we bought it 3 years ago, the only thing that has broke down is the fuel pump. That was only about $400 to fix. The $ saved by buying used is used for maintenance items. Things can and do happen, but the same can be said for any vehicle. We are happy buying used, as we can modify the van and not worry too much about the resale value. Good Luck on your search.

We had 110k on our 2003 Chevy 190P when we traded it in 2015. Since most B's are used for travelling more than "camping", miles are often highway vs stop and go. ST

Sometimes age has more to do with longevity than miles. Everything on the vehicle is 17 years old. I thought about this awhile back I had to replace a gasket on my wife's 12 year old car engine with low mileage. It was a cheap part but well over $1000 in labor costs. The mechanic showed me the brittle old gasket. Mileage had nothing to do with it. It was just old. I wouldn't buy a 17 year vehicle unless I had a good mechanic go over it with a fine tooth comb (and not just the engine and transmission).
