2006 Sightseer 29R transmission

Hi All, Another question from a first-timer. I've located a 2006 29R that is in my budget and located less than 4 hours away. I want to know for sure that the Ford transmission is the 5 speed. The owner does not know for sure. The Ford chassis was built in 2005, but the Winnebago brochure clearly states that in their 2006 model year they have the 5 speed. Just looking to avoid an 8 hour drive if it isn't what I want. Thanks in advance.
  • As has been stated to know for sure get a pic of the shift lever. If it has the T/H button it’s the 5 speed if it’s got the O/D button it’s the 4 speed. Either one is capable of hauling around the weight it rated for. The V-10 4 speed combo really shines with a custom tune from 5 star tuning.

Ford extended the production of its 2004 model F-53 chassis with a 310hp V10 and "Ovedrive" button on the shift lever (4 speed) till December 31st of 2004. On January 1, 2005 they began production of the 2006 F53 with the newer 362hp V10 and the "Tow-Haul" button on the shift lever (5 speed). It was a huge upgrade for the chassis. The 2006 chassis is much preferred but the older F53 isn't bad either. It's just that the extra gear and horsepower really make a difference I'm told.

The 10th digit of the VIN would indicate the year of the chassis.

Is more than an extra gear. The tranny controller keeps the RPM higher in all gears and allows engine breaking. This put a lot less stress in the transmission. I have had motorhomes with over 300K miles with that transmission with no problems.
