I can tell you that my 2009 HR did not have a surge protector from the factory.....It does have an Elictrical Management System if plugged into less than 50 amps (like 30 amp service) to shed loads for more primary needs..That being said, I have a progressive surge protector...saved my back end twice now due to badly wired posts...(one had open neutral and one had open ground...happened when we pulled into a campground late so once I saw that, I just stayed on inverter all night)...worth it, definitely...note that NO surge protector can protect you against a direct lightning strike....
